Raising of a Traditional Timber Frame |
|
Traditional
Timber Frames provides a complete design and construction service
for a range of timber frame projects. We specialise in crafting
timber frames and work alongside Architects, Contractors and Owner
Builders who manage the remainder of the building works. |
We
work from the initial concept design stage with our clients to come
up with a timber frame design that perfectly suits the particular
project. Our design work is carried out with a traditional approach
and we can provide sketches, photos and a wide range of ideas to
determine the perfect frame. The Traditional Timber Frame design
can range from a very traditional European design through to very
modern Australian, all the time utilising the beautiful timber framing
principles that have been admired for centuries. |
When
we have decided upon a design idea we can provide a computer model
that allows our clients to get a real understanding of what the
finished frame will offer, and also allows us to compose a price
for our work. When all is agreed, we can undertake the engineering
and construction drawings and then any required approvals can be
sought from the relevant bodies. |
The
Traditional Timber Frames are crafted in our workshop, where each
of the timbers are carefully scribed together, marked and cut to
form the basis of our joinery. As a testament to the ancient traditions
of timber framing our timbers receive carved ‘carpenters marks’
that allow each joint to be diss-assembled and taken to site for
raising, wherever that may be. |
When
ready we can raise the frame on the particular foundations or footings
that have been prepared. The raising of a Traditional Timber Frame
is an exciting moment as all of the heavy timbers are put in place
amongst precision joinery. The ‘on site’ time required
is very minimal as all of the joinery has been carefully crafted
in our workshop and a complete house frame can typically be raised
in a matter of days. |
The
Traditional Timber Framing process is very much a beautiful craft
which provides timber structures that, like the frames still standing
from the 12th century in England, will surely be admired for many
generations of Australians to come. We would love the opportunity
to work on your project. |
